I sailed as a sea captain all around the island, including Pemba island. I spent here almost 2 months altogether. From tourist places, I liked Nungwi beaches. You have to know, most of tourist resorts are situated outside of local civilization. If you want to go shopping or to the local restaurant, you need to order a taxi everytime and the prices are high. The food and alcohol is quite expensive even for europeans. The locals are kind, although sometimes annoying if they are selling something. I felt absolutely safe, more than in EU. Traffic in the inlands is terrible, try to avoid travelling on these roads. Negotiate the price (taxi etc) before drive. They are able to ask 50 USD for 3 kilometres of ride after. If I could decide, I would try another exotic islands. Zanzibar needs 5-10 years to improve the services for tourist, infrastructure etc.

Navigating Zanzibar City was surprisingly easy, with an array of transportation options available. The compact size of the city made it convenient to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance of each other. I would definitely suggest trying the local Swahili food for fresh fish and seafood.
For a visitor from South Africa, I found the price of food and drinks at restaurants relatively expensive.

Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Zanzibar is simply one of the best places on Earth. Its beaches are nothing short of breathtaking, with pristine sands so fine they feel like silk beneath your toes. The tranquil waters, gentle and calm, create a mesmerizing backdrop that captivates the soul. My love for this place knows no bounds; it's a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty and serenity.

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.
I stayed at this hotel with my husband. We booked the presidential suite with a sea view. Waking up in the morning and going out to her balcony to watch the sea, people on the beach and the ships was worth every single penny. Imagine just lounging on the balcony in the evening with the quiet bustle and ocean sounds. We loved it so much that we have decided to return to it on our last couple of days of vacation. The staff is super helpful and welcoming. They have amazing accommodations such as a pool where you can relax
Forodhani is my second home in Stone Town. Competitive rates, big spacious rooms, and a nice basic breakfast to get you going. The hotel is in the best location. Across the road from Forodhani Park which is the central attraction in Stone Town for its famous night food markets. Also close to the beach. The hotel is a walking distance from the Ferry terminal. A great swimming pool on the rooftop. The staff is always great, welcoming, and considerate.
The location is amazing, right on the beach, so great for people-watching. The hotel is big, but not too big so it feels very cozy! The staff were incredibly nice, everyone from the concierge to the room service, to the guards, to the waiters - everyone!
The pool is lovely, but my absolute favorite was the 200-year-old mango tree. If you don't stay here, at least come for drinks and a look at this beautiful tree!
Great value for money. The hotel location is in the center of stone town, close to a school and local residencies which makes you feel a part of the city. There are sirens at 6:30am&pm which indicate the beginning and the end of the day and also you will hear the call for prayer at around 5:30am etc.
This was a good hotel for our purpose and that's traveling to the mainland. The ferry is very close to the hotel.
Perfect location on the beach in Stone Town with all the amenities you need. The staff were very helpful. The decor is lovely and we enjoyed two pools. The breakfast selection was expansive. We had a big family room in a nearby building with a bathroom that was huge. On the last day, we stored our bags at the hotel while we did a morning tour of Prison Island. Great place to stay.
The personnel was very helpful and available.
They helped us with everything, suggesting to us restaurants, places to visit in Stone Town and storing our luggage after checkout so we could walk around the city luggage-free until the time we had to travel to Nungwi.
To sum up, everything was very very very nice at Rumaisa hotel
The location and the staff are great. I spent there the first three nights when I was in stone town, at the end of my trip, I went back to spend the last night there as well because it was great for me. It's nearby from Stonetown's beach, the port to main land, prison island and Forodhani park. The staff was helpful and nice.
This is a boutique hotel with immense character, it has lovely sea views and genuine old world charm with wood paneled roofing, sprawling verandahs and terraces! It is old world luxury!
The food served was simple and delicious.
The location is very close to the airport and a short drive from Stone town.
Second time during our 4 days in zanzibar and we opted to rebook the hotel for our stay in stone town. .
They did upgrade us to the family room which was so lovely 😍.
The staff were still amazing and helpful especially Rashid .
Definitely 💯 would recommend the place anytime .
The Manor house is a super cute place to stay in Zanzibar city. The staff is more than amazing, I am really impressed by the people who work in the hotel. It's clean and perfect for relaxing. Plus they have their own garden with wonderful fruits and everything is super fresh!
I like that it is a historical building. The staff was great and helpful. Because of being at the oceanside and also in the center of Stone Town, it is prefered by lots of tourists.
On a sunny and cloudless day you can watch perfect sunset on the beach.
Tembo Hotel is quite busy and we were happy to be in the quietness of the B&B apartments in the street next to the main hotel. Big room and nice features. You have access to the breakfast (very good) and the pools at the main hotel which is on the beach.
The hotel is located right on the beach with incredible views of the ocean. The staff are really helpful and polite and there’s a wide variety of choices at breakfast. The rooms are comfortable and there are a few swimming pools to refresh yourself in.
The hotel is really nice as style! In a good position to visit stone town and to go with boat to prison island and nakupenda!
The transfer from/to airport was really good!
It is really close to a beautiful restaurant on the beach!
Beautiful setting right on the beach, within walking distance of all stone town has to offer.. great buffet breakfast, friendly staff; beautiful pool in the main facility. The apartments are a block or so away from the main hotel.
The hotel is at the most central location possible in stone town, 10 meters next to it is the central pedestrian crossroad. The rooms were clean, safe works, staff friendly, airport transfer for 20$ worked well in the end
Great location. It is a beautiful historic building. The balconies are stunning to sit on. I stayed at two hotels during my stay in Stone Town and would recommend the Dhow Palace.
