All the staff were friendly and extremely polite ,our 2nd room was large clean and nicely decorated, the bar was reasonably priced staff chatty, plenty hot water,tv at the end of the bath, robes and slippers provided and a nice coffee machine ,the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was plentiful, delicious with plenty choice ,the Haggis was top notch. Will definitely consider staying here again .We'll done team.

Traditional food and service. Spotless fresh linen with elegant matching crockery and cutlery. Breakfast freshly cooked. Dinner very traditional and not exactly gourmet standard but very reasonably priced.
The room was in the "new" wing of the hotel. Very large, quiet, comfortable and very well furnished.
The hotel is family run and they really care !

Lots to see and do all around ; mountain biking in the forests ( recommend Ae forest with bike hire and cafe) Lots of local history from gunpowder to Robert Burns . Drumlanrig castle near Thornhill well worth a visit . Beautiful place with a breathtaking view. Very pretty garden. The house is absolutely gorgeous, very spacious, comfortable furniture everything super clean and brand new. We called in to a few pubs and the locals were all very friendly and chatty even to us English ha ha. The town was clean and we had a nice walk across the river along a park then back again. There was plenty of places to have a drink. We only went for the football at Queen of the South and I would go there again given the chance.

However on the Sunday evening, after the Book Festival, There was nowhere suitable available in Dumfries to take three children for an evening meal before travelling home to Stirling. The place is located close to the railway station and a walk to the town centre will only take about 5 minutes. I'll happily rebook it if I ever visit Dumfries again.
