Fukuoka is a very nice place to visit. We came end May and the weather was fine, around 20 - 24 C, cooler at night. The passenger transportation system is excellent, using IC card which can be stored in your mobile phone. Every where was clean, the locals were friendly, courteous and disciplined, where the pedestrian is always given priority. Although the city has its attractions of old (shrines, temples, etc) and new, the other cities in Kyushu island like Kumamoto, Beppu and Yufuin also have their unique attractions and food. Japan Rail pass is a convenient and economic way to travel by train to these and other destinations. Also try to take the short ferry rides to nearby islands / parks. We used equal amounts of cash and credit card payment. Will return for more in future

Fukuoka has a lot to offer and we only scratch the surface visiting for a few days. It's a much more laid-back city compared to Tokyo and Osaka. The city is clean but not as clean as Tokyo and other Japanese cities. Hakata Canal City was a bit of a disappointment, way too expensive and not much different than other shopping malls. I would go back to Fukuoka because it's a great place to start and end traveling the Kyushu area, such as Nagasaki, and Kumamoto, and a quick trip over to Busan, S Korea.

Fukuoka, located on Japan's Kyushu Island, is a vibrant city blending tradition and modernity. It offers a rich cultural experience. The city's highlights include the ancient Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and the modern Fukuoka Tower. Food enthusiasts will delight in its renowned Hakata ramen and yatai street food stalls. Fukuoka's waterfront, with parks and shopping complexes like Canal City, provides a scenic retreat. The efficient public transport makes exploring easy. With its balance of historical sites and contemporary attractions, Fukuoka is a must-visit for travelers seeking a comprehensive Japanese experience.

This is a "Festival-Town". They love Festivals and every 2-3 months they have some feasts :)
I could enjoy throughout the "Golden Week" on the 3-4th of May 2024 the Parade on the streets. It was really colorful and culturally interesting for a European. :)
The Old Town is a must see! :)

Fukuoka is an entry point to Kyushu with an international airport and a port. It has lots of attractions that can easily be reached by train and subway. Fukuoka has excellent dining, shopping, some great gardens, and if you are a student then visiting Daizumi shrine is a must. It is a shrine dedicated to the success of students in their studies.

Beautiful scenery and interesting culture.
Beautiful scenery and interesting culture. Hiking paths and a nice beach😊
Great places to eat with options to suit all types of eaters and only a quick trip from Fukuoka Airport or a relaxing scenic trip on the Shinkansen from Tokyo!
The room I stayed in had a lovely view of the city, and the hotel was situated conveniently close to Hakata Train Station. The room itself has a nice deep bathtub which was lovely to soak in after a long day of sightseeing and shopping, especially if you use the complimentary bath salts and oils located in the hotel foyer.
The breakfast is also very filling and delicious. You can pick from the local speciality, a boiled breakfast or Japanese spin on wester breakfasts, like an omelette etc. all in addition to the buffet breakfast.
I liked that the location of the hotel was not too near the busy and noisy area and yet it was near enough to Hakata Bus Station and Hakata Train Station. The breakfast was a simple selection but included the local speciality of Karashi Renkon. I enjoyed the Kyoho Grape cheesecake too! The staff were very helpful with ensuring that I could get a cab to the airport even though it was the day after a public holiday. The massage chair in the room was a lovely addition after all the walking on my trip too. Thank you!
Great location (flat 10min walk from Hakata Station). Location is also close to Canal City, stores and restaurants. There are many people who stay in this hotel so it can feel quite busy but also lively.
My room was a bit small but very modern, comfortable beds with intuitively placed charging ports and lights. Bathroom is clean and modern. There is also a small public bath in the hotel to relax in after a long day, and free icy poles for a treat after.
Overall, one of my favourite stays in Japan so far.
The Grand Residence Hotel Hakata was great mostly but the big difficultly was the roaring noise from trucks and cars, ambulances and motor bikes, at night time coming through the windows but particularly through a vent just above our heads at the bed. If we hadn't booked 4 nights and prepaid we would have thankfully left and found an alternative hotel. In our month through Japan on cycling tour from Fukuoka and return to Fukuoka we did not have a situation of noise anything like this.
We had the Japanese breakfast every day, it was excellent with traditional as well as local foods. The rooms were spacious and clean. We enjoyed the onsen as well as the outdoor pool filled with heated onsen water. The location was excellent close to Hakata station and numerous restaurants as well as lots of shopping. Would definitely stay here again if coming to Fukuoka. The staff were very helpful holding our luggage and later helping us with a taxi to the airport.
The hotel is located on a small side street, but easy enough to find with Google Maps, and it isn't far from Hakata and access to the airport. The staff at check-in were very friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and well-equipped, and the complimentary amenity bar on the ground floor was a nice touch. It was excellent value for money. I will definitely return here again the next time I stay in Fukuoka.
Tenza is within walking distance to Hakata station which has JR trains and a fast train to the airport (FUK). There are also many local restaurants in the neighborhoods around the hotel.
Tanza's breakfast buffet has a rich selection that satisfies most tastes. Fresh and good.
The room and shower/toilet are of a high standard, as is usually the case in Japan.
A quite new hotel near station. You can easely go there by subway from airport or Hakata station. The staff was helpful and the room very clean. 30 min walk to Fukuoka tower and the ocean.
My first room was a bit small, but later I chose a double room with more space and convenient for some work on my laptop. Seperate bath and toilet.
Everything was great at TKP Sunlife, the friendly staff, the location of the hotel is across the street from Hakata Station. The shops and great food is all just a couple of minutes away. The room was amazing and it was very spacious, the view of the city was great. Will be staying here again very soon when in Fukuoka. 10/10
Looks like an ordinary Japanese Appartement. Don’t forget to turn on the hot water machine. The room itself is exactly the same as the pictures. The location is super good! It’s only 5 minutes walk to the Fukuoka domestic airport, car rental area and subway. And the blanket itself was very thick and comfortable.
The hotel location is very good, it's near the train station and attraction sites in the city of Fukuoka, you can walk from the hotel to Kawabata market and Canal city mall which takes only about 5 mins. Moreover, all facilities in the room are very convenient and the river view from my room.
Location is perfect. Near Hakata station with kombini and restaurants around. Just perfect! Room is more spacious than other Japanese hotels with space for coats, jackets and luggages. T&B is also spacious, with tub! Lobby provides a wide selection of toiletries and shampoo brands. Lather up!
Perfect location, very near to GION station and Canal City Hakata, with so many restaurant around, only took me 10 min to get to Tenjin shopping area, Staff was fantastic, room was spacious enough comparing to other chain hotels, will consider visit again next time in Fukuoka.
The hotel is within a 10 minute walk of Hakata station and is centrally located, making it a great place to explore the city. Like other APA hotels in Japan, the rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. There is also a very nice spa in the hotel which was great to relax in.
The hotel is centrally located next to the Hakata Station which is filled with many places to eat. The staff was very helpful, even though I could not speak to them in Japanese. It was an easy walk to the Folk Museum and the main temple of Fukuoka, which was nice.
The hotel is located near down town Fukuoka and next to the river. The city is clean and beautiful flowers were planted everywhere. The weather was cold and the most of the cherry trees were not ready to bloom.
